Kinesiology Taping

Developed in Japan in the 70s, kinesiology taping is the colourful tape you would have seen on athletes at all sporting events recently. It is designed to mimic the skin’s elasticity and therefore provide support to muscles and joints without limiting range of motion. The tape’s medical-grade (usually hypoallergenic) adhesive is generally water-resistant and strong enough to last three to five days through showers, swims and general exertion.

Studies have shown that strategically applied kinesiology tape increases space in mechanically varying joints such as the shoulder and knee. This slight increase in space creates a lift that unloads the underlying tissues and helps reduce the chance of joint irritation as well as lessen pain, reduce swelling, and improve performance.
