Myofascial Release

Fascia is connective tissue that provides the framework for the body, holding every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fibre and muscle in place. Because it has nerves, it is almost as sensitive as skin and tightens up when it is stressed. As muscles contract and relax with movement, fascia is designed to stretch as the body moves. Mechanical stresses and/or injuries can cause fascia to thicken and become less mobile. When this happens, it tightens around muscles. This can limit mobility and cause painful knots to develop.

Muscle dysfunction cannot be thoroughly address without addressing fascial dysfunction. Integrating massage, neuromuscular and myofascial therapies, addresses this multi-system mechanical dysfunction effectively. Treatment can include advice to reduces mechanical stresses if caused by lifestyle factors and exercises to improve alignment and stability, which is one of the core functions of fascia.
