Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are hyper-irritable nodule-like points along a band of taut muscle. They can be focal, localised points of intense pain or sensitivity and can also cause referred pain to seemingly unrelated areas. Trigger point therapy applies direct and sustained pressure, to reduce the irritability or sensitivity of these points. It deactivates these with the aim of reprogramming the neuromuscular system to reduce pain and tightness and restore the muscle to normal function.
The use of sustained pressure to address tension, inflammation and joint range of motion helps speed up recovery from injury. Trigger point therapy is used alongside and within remedial massage and other neuromuscular therapies. It is an especially useful tool for addressing imbalances due to injury and repetitive strain.
